Must Have: Erector Robot Kit

I remember being jealous as a kid that my brother had an Erector set and I didn't because my father decided girls shouldn't play with them. So not only is it kewl to see them still around, it is really fine that there is a kit that does robots. The Erector Robot's included power tool becomes a motor to run each and pre-programmed sounds and movements are included. The company promises that their Speed Play construction makes for a simpler, quicker assembly.

Must Have: Robotime Triceratops

You have to love Robotime's latest wooden Dinosaur Kit. You put it together and when it is complete it moves by RC and roars, leaving any small pet quaking in its path. The triceratops snaps together so no gluing or solder is needed. Other dinosaur kits are also available.

Must Have: Wall-E Truck Play Set

For those kidlets who bugged you for Wall-E Action Figures until you relented, there is now a Truck Play Set built to their scale. The truck makes noise when moving forward and its roof and back door opens. There is also a button for sound effect and the voices of Wall-E and M-O. The 13" vehicle needs 3 AA batteries, not included.

Must Have: Hasbro Walkin' Kitty

Hasbro's latest contribution to the robotic pet population is its Furreal Friends Walkin' Kitty. Load her up with the 3 included AA batteries and she will walk over to you. Pick her up or pet her and she will respond by meowing or purring. Unfortunately, she also kneads, which we find to be an annoying trait in a real cat. At least you will not have to invest in kitty chow.

Must Have: Finn McMissile Literally Climbs Walls

Cars 2 will soon be coming out with a new character (voiced by Michael Caine) named Zero Gravity Finn McMissile. Debuting at the recent Toy Fair in NY, a copy of the real thing will soon be available to kids everywhere to drive up the wall and drive their parents crazy. Look for the RC car to debut in May for about $35.00. In the meantime, you can let your kidlets watch the original "Cars" out now on Blu-ray and DVD.

Must Have: Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots

So we are tooling around Amazon the other day and noticed that the ranking (how many purchased) of the original 1966 Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots recently increased 486% in a 24 hour period. This is no doubt partially due to the upcoming Real Steel, due to be released November 18, 2011. We suggest that the production company come up with an updated version of the game and really clean up.

Must Have: Valentine's Day Sing-a-Ma-Jig

It wasn't enough to release a special Holiday Sing-A-Ma-Jig that is dressed as Santa and sings "Jingle Bells." Now Fisher Price has added a Valentine's Day Songster that sings "Let Me Call You Sweetheart." This one can chatter, sing or harmonize with other members of the Sing-A-Ma-Jig family. Aww.

Must Have: Mint Performs Dance Routine

In order to draw attention to its Mint, Evolution Robotics staged a dance routine with a dozen of them. On display at the CES, they robotically got down to "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas during a Las Vegas fashion show. This video clearly shows the swiffer-like cleaners' versatility but you have to wonder who came up with the idea and laboriously choreographed the routine. It may be one reason that it won the Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award.
